About

Stuart McKenzie Hall is a registered architect, licensed builder, and Certified Passive House Designer with more than 30 years of experience in sustainable architecture, timber construction & prefabrication. His work has focused on advancing high-performance timber buildings through the integration of building physics, airtightness, moisture management, and low-carbon design strategies.

His current research investigates the hygrothermal performance of timber façade systems, with particular emphasis on durability, occupant health, and long-term building performance. This aligns closely with the ARC Advance Timber Hub’s objectives to improve timber building components, extend service life, support circular economy outcomes, and increase confidence in timber as the material of choice for Australia’s future built environment.

As a PhD Candidate at the University of Tasmania, he is contributing to the development of evidence-based design approaches for mid-rise timber buildings. A planned three-storey CLT Passive House project in Hobart will provide a full-scale research and demonstration platform, supporting the Hub’s commitment to industry translation, exemplar projects, and the wider adoption of innovative timber construction systems.
