About

Asteria Chen is a PhD researcher at the University of Queensland within the ARC Advance Timber Hub’s Project 3.1, Circular (Re)Design to Enable Disassembly and Reuse of Mid-Rise Timber Buildings. Her research focuses on integrating Design for Disassembly principles into the architectural design process to support the long-term adaptability, maintenance, and reuse of mass timber buildings in Australia. With a background in Environmental Sustainable Design Research in Populous, including sustainable building design, climate analysis, embodied carbon assessment, and façade performance, Asteria is particularly interested in how early design decisions shape a building’s environmental and material outcomes. Her work aims to develop practical design strategies and implementation pathways that can assist industry partners in transitioning toward more circular timber construction practices.
