About

Dr Clement Matthew Chan is a Principal Scientist in the Forest Products Innovation team at the Queensland Department of Primary Industries. He is a materials engineer with a strong background in biopolymer development and, more recently, engineered wood products. Clement has an established track record of leading and contributing to collaborative research projects across academia, industry, and government. His major research experience stretches across the full spectrum in biopolymer and biocomposites materials development, from manufacturing, in-service performance to end-of-life analysis. His current research focuses on forest resource characterisation, the development of structural engineered wood products, and strategies to decarbonise the building industry.

Through his research, Clement is dedicated to translating innovative solutions towards a ‘zero waste’ future that benefits both industry and society. His core interests focus on cradle-to-cradle design, through which he has developed a deep understanding of the complex technical, environmental, and systems-level factors that maximise resource efficiency and drive the development and implementation of sustainable manufacturing.
