About

Paul’s primary research interest is in developing more effective approaches to climate change mitigation. His research covers carbon management issues associated with forests, soil, waste, agribusiness, infrastructure, transport and electricity. His work seeks a better understanding of the constraints and opportunities in developing climate change mitigation outcomes that are more durable, more beneficial for people and ecosystem health, and more cost-effective.

As Hub Deputy Director, Paul will be responsible for supporting the Hub Director and Hub Manager in the delivery on the Hub aims and objectives.

Paul’s extended Hub role will support the delivery of cross-stakeholder roadmaps to expedite growth in EWP uptake and supply, ensuring the effective coordination of stakeholder engagement activities across all research Nodes. He has developed national decarbonisation-related roadmaps for three Southeast Asian countries; also serving on the DFAT expert panel on Climate-Resilient Infrastructure Development, Queensland Farmers Federation’s Natural Resource Management Committee, and Queensland Rural Jobs and Skills Alliance. He has been CI on ARC, ACIAR and FAO projects, has mentored 29 postgraduate students, and published in highly ranked journals across a variety of collaborative topics.

As Node Leader on assessing decarbonisation and circular economy outcomes, Paul will employ a political economy perspective to understand GHG mitigation opportunity.

He is a heavily cited researcher on the topic of carbon offsets, chairs a not-for-profit group that facilitates multi-stakeholder innovation for GHG mitigation initiatives; has delivered GHG Management training programs used in more than 20 countries; and led numerous consultancies on GHG and energy management and carbon offset projects.
