About

Dr Xin Yu is an ARC DECRA Fellow and Senior Lecturer in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Queensland. With a dual PhD from the Australian National University and Tsinghua University, Dr Yu brings a strong interdisciplinary foundation to his research in computer vision, machine learning, and AI-driven visual analytics. His research focuses on advanced image processing, 3D reconstruction, and AI-driven solutions for real-world vision challenges. These capabilities are increasingly vital in the digital transformation of traditional industries, including construction and manufacturing.

Through his expertise in visual analytics and intelligent systems, Dr Yu supports the ARC Advance Timber Hub to develop AI-powered visual inspection and modelling tools that support the design, fabrication, and performance monitoring of engineered timber structures. His work will contribute to creating smarter, data-driven approaches for the timber industry, aligning with the Hub’s mission to advance innovation in sustainable construction.
