About

Dr Zidi Yan is a Research Fellow affiliated with both the University of the Sunshine Coast and the University of Queensland. His expertise lies in timber structural and durability engineering, with a particular focus on advancing circular economy principles in construction. He earned his PhD in Timber Structural Engineering at the University of Queensland in 2024, where he specialised in innovative approaches to prefabricated timber construction. His doctoral research developed and prototyped an offsite-manufactured, panelised light timber framing system designed for high-performance and adaptable housing across diverse Australian climates. The system emphasises sustainability, affordability, durability, and long-term adaptability, fully aligned with circular economy practices.

Zidi completed his Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours, Extended Major) at the University of Queensland in 2019, concentrating on Environmental and Structural Engineering. Throughout his academic journey, his research and professional contributions have consistently centred on sustainable and durable timber structural solutions, as well as innovative timber construction technologies that support the advancement of Australia’s building industry.
